Study of Waterside Activities
Location: Newark, NJ
Client: Edison Properties, LLC
Newark's 2.2 miles of Passaic River presented a long-neglected opportunity and numerous challenges to redevelopment like many other post-industrial riverfronts. This study brings people and life back to the River by proposing exciting possibilities for waterside activities from boating to a Town Dock and new parks.
Nautilus took a comprehensive look at how to organize these activities and created a framework for balancing public parks with private development. The resulting "String of Pearls," which gives each area along the riverfront an important and complementary role, has gained wide support and is now being included in the City's Waterfront Redevelopment Plan.
